Aquamonitrix NOx-monitrix in-process analyser was released in November 2023 and is designed for high-precision autonomous determination of nitrate and nitrite. It is the latest instrument in the Aquamonitrix range and has encompassed several changes requested by customers from our initial mobile analyser.

Maximum sampling interval: 15 minutes, Analytical Range in freshwater & wastewater*

– Nitrate: 0.6 – 500 mg/L as NO2
– Nitrite: 0.05 – 100 mg/L as NO3

*35 ppt saline water, the lower limits of detection are
1.0 mg/L nitrate as NO3– and 0.5 mg/L nitrite as NO2

The analyser has completed numerous independent trials for accuracy and precision including Environmental Verification Testing to ISO14034 with Scottish Water and the James Hutton Institute. A similar trial was conducted by the Battelle Memorial Institute, in Columbus, Ohio, USA on behalf of the USEPA.

APPLICATIONS

Typical applications include:

  • Wastewater treatment plants – Aeration Basin*, De-nitrification, Final Effluent.
  • Drinking Water Plants – Inlet protection, Chloramination
  • Industrial – Final Effluent

*Measurements within the aeration basin require a sample preparation step such as the SetLR or similar sample preparation device.

SERVICE
Before the supply of our analyser, we require the end-user to complete a site suitability form. This allows our engineers to assess the suitability of the sample location and provide recommendations. A correctly installed analyser will ensure the service requirement is optimal.

The service itself can range in terms of the level of intervention and skill required. NOx-monitrix has been designed with servicing in mind, and to keep the majority of service activity at a low skill level, enabling both end users and service agents alike to have light touch points with the analyser to ensure its continued operation.

The service requirement for the NOx-monitrix analyser depends on;- the application ( wastewater final effluent, drinking water, aeration basin), the duty cycle (frequency of analysis, every 15 minutes, 6 times per day) and the sample matrix condition.  We have a recommended service guideline for each application based on the duty cycle and standard matrix condition. Our service guidelines have been built upon experience operating the analysers in various applications worldwide.

Climate control is an integral part of the analysers’ operation. Where the analyser is subjected to temperatures outside its standard operations ( 7 to 40°C ) we recommend installing the analyser within a housing providing either heating or cooling as required.

The sample matrix condition may vary from one point to the next. For example, not all final effluents are the same. However, the analyser has a self-prognostic feature that notifies the user of any issues that may occur. This will prompt the user with an earlier-than-expected service if the analyser has experienced abnormal sample matrix conditions. As a backup, the Aquamonitrix team can access the analyser via the IoT platform ( if enabled), to review the veracity of the results and problem-solve any issue that may have occurred.

The carrier eluent used by the analyser is a dilute non-hazardous sodium chloride eluent that can be manufactured by an on-site laboratory technician or supplied by a local chemical reagents and standards company. We can provide a detailed SOP for the manufacture of the eluent.
